Title: CLIMATE CONTROL = POWER LOSS
Post by: surj on 30 August 2008, 22:49:01
Hi everyone ,  i was just wondering how much power does the use of the climate control in an omega 3.2 use up . The reason why i ask is because when i was at a standstill i pressed the economy button on the heating fascia and the engine seemed to really just quieten down as if it were just ticking over , but when turned to auto mode it felt the engine was just working that bit more  plus the extra engine noise!!

I find it's the aircon fans that makes all the noise, When I switch the A/C off the biggest noise under the bonnet is the fuel injectors, the engine ticking over is barely audiable.

IIRC (and I probably don't ...  :) ) I think its a 5 HP compressor .. as the 3.2 pushes out 217 HP it makes little difference  :) - well I've never noticed it anyway !!

The ECU does change the idle speed by about 100 rpm when climate is on, and both the front fans run at slow speed which is what you may be hearing ...

Most AC compressors take 3-5 bhp.

The revs jump up a bit on any A/C car when compressor on, just to help it run a little smoother...
