I have a pair of Vectra 2.5 rocker covers. Are the gaskets different to the Omega type?, I presume these covers will fit my Omega?

Yep gaskets are different, you have to swap the covers over so the oil filler cover is fitted to the offside bank and you'll need a funnel to fill the oil.

Why are you fitting Vectra ones?
If its to overcome the mythical 'warp covers' excuse used by incompitent mechnics, then I'd recommend just fitting the proper Omega ones properly.
If its a cosmetics thing, you really do need to keep an eye on the breathers very regularly - whereas the Omegas pop the cam cover gaskets when crank pressure builds up, the Veccy covers will pop for difficult seals, normally the crank one. Also, the oil filler is in an awkward place on veccy ones.

I am fitting them because mine is starting to leak on the drivers side. I fitted these but they have only lasted 1 1/2 years before leaking. Is it mythical as you seem to hear so much about this?

It isnt the covers causing the problem (apparently they rarely ,if ever warp) the gaskets leak when the breathers arent cleaned regularily,and the breathers block quicker if the oil isnt changed regularily enough.-3/4,000 miles. :y

You need to keep the breather system clear (see guides) and also it is a good idea to check the oil pressure at idle and high revs, should be 1.8 Bar at idle and at high revs the relief valve should open at 5 Bar any more and you are wasting your time changing cam cover gaskets.

Over-tightening of the cam cover bolts is another common fault, this causes them to "bow" so leading to leaks. The cam cover bolts should ONLY be torqued to 8 Nm ( 6 lbf ft )

yes it is mythical....
I have lost count of the number of mechanics who have used that reason instead on either doing up the bolts to the correct torque instead of wangnig them up till they can't go any further, or cleaning the breathers in order to aid breathing....
Genuine gaskets will help a shedload, my last miggy did 30K on one set of gaskets, the oil was changed every 3k

Use genuine gaskets, and do the job properly, and keep breathers clear, it will last years
