Hi,
I've noticed that my 97 3.0 has started stalling when the climate control is off. Revs with climate on is approx 600, when off approx 400rpm...
At idle, the revs are very steady, no hunting or surging of revs. Vacuum pipes are all correct (as to Marks drawings), no air leaks (which I would presume would cause hunting revs).
The stalling only happens on idle, not at any other time (cranks sensor changed approx yr ago).
Breathers are all clean, TB's are clean too (oil changes between 5-8k :y )
I'm presuming ICV, any thoughts please?

Given the ease of removing and cleaning the Idle Control valve with copous carb cleaner, I would do the deed. Then lubricate with a couple of drops of light sewing machine oil or 3 in 1 (NOT engine oil) and refit. See if its still the same and advise back.... :y

Cheers mate,
Just to refresh, does the plenum need to come off to remove the ICV on the V6?

No.
ICV is on front RHS of plenum as you face the engine from the front. Remove hoseclip with screwdriver, remove electrical connector then ICV pulls out the plenum. There is a guide and/or usefull engine piccy, will race you to find it! ;D

Thanks,
Just remember mine having part of the rubber connector bolted to the underside of the plenum?
-
Most of them are now broken free from the plenum, no probs....

This the pic?

Nope, its this one....

its the gubbins nearest the oil filler cap as you are looking at it....
If the hose and electrical connector is removed, there is enough slack in the large rubber circular mount that you can remove the part from the plenum then pull it free from the rubber mount.

Ahh, I replaced mine about a year ago :y

Will have it off and clean it up!
Cheers...

Remember to put NOTHING down the slot other than carb cleaner/drops of oil when finished. Do not be tempted to use a screwdriver or blade in there.... Give it a good long fill of cleaner, cover both in/out pipes with the fingers and give it a bloody good shake around for a while. Empty and repeat several times, then a fwe drops of oil.

Thanks. Also think I need to sort a new pipe that goes from the multiram to the ICV then spurs off and goes to the fuel rail.
This one has started to perish on the spur...

Very sound advice... I thought I'd give it a good scrape out and ended up getting a replacement unit :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

Hurt the pride more than anything else!!! Luckily I managed to get a replacement from a member here who trusted me enough to get it in the post to me before I'd even paid him :o :o :y :y
Top work Dan... Thanks :y :y :y :y :y :y

Awesome! This forum has loads of great people... :)

What would be the implication of vaccum pipe that goes from the air injection valve to brake servo being mixed up with the front vac reservoir to brake T piece?
-
As long as the system is vacuum tight, for tickover, shouldn't make too much odds. To be absolutely sure, replumb it as per M_DTM's guidelines... :y
-
Havee replumbed :y
Have got the part numbers for the ICV pipe so will get that priced up tomorrow...
-
This morning I have noticed a fair increase in braking - I'm 100% its not psychological!
Just by switching those vacuum pipes over, how could that have had such a positive impact on braking? :D
