Title: Holding thermostat o-ring in place...
Post by: Liam on 04 September 2008, 19:11:17
Hi there,

Whilst I'm stopping for dinner and thinking about it, may as well post on here :).  What do you resourceful chaps use to hold the thermostat o-ring in place as you turn it up-side-down to fit it?  Grease?  Oil?

Or hows about carefully putting the o-ring down in the right place and lowering the stat housing on?  Sounds risky.

Cheers

Liam

Always hold o-rings in place with a few dabs of grease :y

I'll second that.

A thin smear of grease will hold it, and if you do it to the mating faces as well it'll make removing it lovely - same goes for the waterpump.

Also, if you remove the old stat out of the housing that you're replacing it leaves you with a very convenient engine flushing stub  :y

Knew this place wouldn't let me down!

Thanks fellas - I'm on it.  I reckon installing that transfer pipe will be much eased with some grease too.  Woo

Grease is the answer on the water pump......as it aids future removal because it fits in a machined recess.....
