Yesterday about 3pm I was stuck in central Brum in the worst rain storm ive ever seen. I was trying to get home and the 6 mile journey took over an hour, stop start all the way and I was worried as the temp kept rising and dropping at one point it went over 100,then the alarm siren went off and the taxi infront still wouldnt get out of the way..........then steam and the screen said coolant lack.
The siren is disconnected but I cant find the sight of the water leak but can smell it and there is no hiss from the overflow tank when removeing the cap. So am I right or not.if so how long should take to change ? :'(

Sounds like a good candidate... It's not too bad a job to do and the part isn't expensive. Under £30 IIRCC :y :y
Sorry to hear your woes. Search the maintenance guides and then you'll be able to check it before just going ahead and changing it :y :y :y

Its in the guides.
Is changeable in about 20mins, not difficult, just a tad awkward to get to easily.

But a HBV is what you are looking for when you approach the man at the parts counter... a heater bypass valve. It's right down the back of the engine though isn't it, underneath the windscreen scuttle?...and make sure you get the pipes back in the right order!

Thanks guys, I was fairly sure what was going wrong but I just needed comformation. I thought it was called the heater control valve. thanks for putting me right :y
