Anyone know the exact quantity of coolant that is required for an Omega engine?
I have read that the engine retains a fair amount of coolant after the drain plug has been removed and to ensure that I retain the correct ratio of coolant to water, it would be handy to know the precise figure.
If for example an Omega engine takes 10 litres of coolant and only 6 litres comes out of the drain plug - assuming that once it's all flushed through with only water left in the system - can I refill it with 5 parts coolant to 1 part water (adding to the 4 litres of water already left in the engine). Thus ensuring a proper 50:50 ratio?

I put the whole 5 litres of coolant in then top up with water, the mixture should be 50/50 :y

As LK says, it is near enough 50% of capacity that is left in after you have drained it from the red tap. So repeatedly flushing with water will ensure its about 50% full of water after you drain it the last time, then pour a whole can of neat antifreeze in - should more or less fit exactly.
The Vx red stuff is the best bet :y

As Loo Knee says if you have flushed the old stuff out and its as clean as you can get it , add the five litres . I am not sure what the freezing point for 50/50 is but its hopefully not going to get that colld here .
And with the five litres in the corrosion protection should be ok .
You can but an antifreeze tester (hydrometer) if you want to try to get it spot on :y

If there's 9.7L of coolant in there I can measure how much comes out and get it spot on. :y
Just need it to stop chucking it down with rain and I can out to do it. Wish I had a garage :'(

OK.
Fortunately the rain held off yesterday and I managed to change the HBV. (Before I continue I must say it was an absolute pig of a job and there was no sodding room to get at those stupid clips. 30 mins to get off and only 5 to refit!! >:()
Anyway, I had drained and flushed the coolant several times beforehand and when I was sure it was pretty much all water in there re-filled the system with neat coolant. However it only seemed to take a little under 4 litres, now should I be worried about that or not??

Good thing I checked this post this morning. Coolant Level warning came up this morning and I read the manual and it's (to me) not really clear that if you're topping it up you should go 50:50 with water.
To me it says stick in either water or coolant, and then pay your stealer to check if it's the right mix, unless you want to invest in an hydrometer, or pay your local Vx stealer to do so!

Going exactly by the book you should be putting in a 50:50 mix but in the real world, if you only need to top up by a little every now & then, then just water will be OK. If you're topping up quite frequently, aprt from the fact you've got a leak ... or worse, then you shuld top up with a 50:50 mix.
