Title: Dis Pack - What is it?
Post by: Alex W on 08 September 2008, 20:32:42
Sorry for being dim, but I keep seeing reference in various threads to a "Dis Pack" and its usually suspected of being faulty. Could some kind soul please tell me what a "dis pack" is?

Thanks in advance.

Its the modern equivalent of an old-fashioned distributor !!

Electronicaly provides the HT power for the spark. No moving parts but without it, or with cracks /shorts etc .. no spark = no go .. :(

On the miggy V6 works in an odd fashion ... in pairs . so the spark goes to 2 cylinders at once, however one is on the exhaust stroke so it has no effect .. this is called "wasted spark" system.

Prone to being soaked by a leaky HBV (Heater Bypass Valve) which does them no good at all , and can be badly affected by problems in the HT system caused by leaking cam cover gaskets.

As my daughter used to say before she grew up and became cynical, "every day is a school day".

Thanks.
