Hello Guys and Gals.
As I am competing in a charity rally next spring i am looking at one or two bolt ons to amplify the sound of the 2.5l V6
What pitfalls may I encounter in terms of sensors and cats in the exhaust? I am not looking to spend loads on a brand new stainless system i am just looking to up the fun factor a bit for as cheap as poss.
Can anyone advise of the options that i have ie de catting etc?
Thankyou in anticipation
Andy :)

Drill some holes in the airbox will add a growl

.. a handful of sand would be quite cheap.. ;)

you can use the cone air filter, it will gain the sound of v6 and make it sound awesome!
perhaps cone will give you a bit more perfomance too :)

Do you think the MAF will mind? I know some cars dont like the oiled type cones. I dont want to tempt fate as reliabillity is v important on the trip lol

It should be fine! I have one on mine, and it seems ok.
If the MAF does die, you could unplug it - at least it will get you home then :y

disconnect some sections from exhaust ;D so you can bring it back to normal easily

Thats great - cheers for the replies.
What are the exhaust options available? I have heard some nice fruity V6 Omegas on youtube! :o
I am going to try to get parts FOC in return for exposure on Men&Motors and car mags ;)

I had a cone on a 3.0ltr, only oiled it twice in as many years ;)
-
how do scumballers, sounds like a worthy cause.
Sounds like you already suspect an oiled filter can bugger the Maf, the oil can get sucked through the induction and cook itself onto the filament causing failure.
Having just fitted a new exhaust i wonder if removing the back box would give the desired effect? Probably depends how rusted the clamps and connector pipes are as to weather you can get it back on or not.

Best answer yet, are there 2 cats on a 2.5 after the down pipes then does the pipe join into 1 then baffle then back box?
If so i think a 2.5" custom cat back system would be reletavely cheap?
-
Two cats, two centre resonators that then feed a single back box......just drill some holes in the back box if you want noise......and a cone filter will reduce the power!

Nice one - cheers ;)

i might draw the line before removing the connector pipes. The cat section is well solid but i am not sure if there is a bracket between there and the manifold? I just see the resonance and leverage pulling on the manifold studs and gaskit which may start blowing, a real pain to repair. So i would leave the connector pipes on. Also the bolts are easy to shear off as they seize in the cat section clamp.

just cut out centre boxes and rejoin sections with straight pipe it will give a reasonable burble at tickover, a healthy roar mddrange and nice bellow at top revs!!
also avoids any sensor issues!! :y
