Further to my other posts,
I've just spoken with the mechanic and suggested the crank sensor being faulty hence the reason it wont start. He said that wouldnt be a possibility as the spark plugs were sparking. Is he telling me a load of porkie pies and just trying to get as much money out of me as possible?
Advice would be great.

crank sensor is located nearly oil filter easy to changed need jackup passengare side and is only one bolt to undoo

Thanks for that info serek. My main concern is being told that as the engine is sparking, the crank sensor would be fine. any ideas?

What were the fault codes?
If a 19 then sometimes the plugs may spark but, its classed as an incorrect signal so they may not occur all the time or indeed at the right time!

Hi Marks,
I dont know what the fault codes are as the garage it is at has now way of testing the diagnostics. Im just concerned that it will be a costly process replacing parts willy nilly to see if that works where as another garage would be able to plug it in and see.

It certianly is a fool hardy way of doing things.

It's the 2.5 V6
When i had the problem 1st i was low on fuel, it managed to get going and i went to a garage to get fuel. Drove around 20 miles and got home. Tried it 2 mins later and it wouldnt start. My initail reaction was fuel filter being clogged as when i turn it over there is no smell of fuel although i found out that the engine needs to be on before the fuel is primed(?)
Tbh what people have said about it being the crank sensor is probably a sure fire thing but without the car i cant do a test on it myself. Im wondering wether to go get the car back and do a test on it and change the sensor myself.

Right, ask them to do this (or pop and do it yourself) as this will tell us if any fault codes are present and what they are:

Many folks on the forum have the cheap versions of the diagnostic tool, a couple of guys have the very expensive real thing !!
Most folks who own a diagnostic are willing to help in reading codes if they live nearby .. :y :y :y

Just updated my profile details so people know where i am ;)
Have spoken to the garage today and he says he has replaced the fuel relay switch but no joy and is now (finally) getting a diagnostic check done. He seems to think that it is the ECU that has given up but im not sure, all i know is it was running perfectly then wont start, fires over with no lights flashing on the dash, petrol in it etc. It's generating a spark but just no life. I think it may be the fuel pump, can they just conk out? Its an expensive route changing the ECU!
I guess i just have to wait until the diag check comes back to see just what the matter is.

Hi Mark,
Just got my car back from the garage. Im scratching my head with this one as is the mechanic. As you know the car wouldnt start and suspected the crank sensor altho today the mechanic took off the panel by the drivers side well and said that he "played around" with the wires down there and it started pissing out fuel from the injectors. He put them back on and lo and behold it started. He suspects a bad earth but im not going to be charged 40 quid an hour for him to test every wire. Do you have any suggestions? I have to drive to Bristol on Friday so im a little wary.

Think hes throwing a smoke screen
There are no wires in the drivers side panel which are involved with the ECU as its all under the bonnet.!
Now you have the car back, can you read the fault codes as per the above post?

Im going to have a go in a bit. If i cant read anything (it looks a bit puzzling counting all the flashes) when is the earliest you are available to read the codes? Oh yeh how much do you charge?
