Hi Guys
I have a 2.5TD Omega 1995 and the sports button seems to do nothing to the car. The light on the dash comes on but the car feels the same.
Thanks for your help
Rob :)

As far as i'm aware the sports button holds the gears to a higher rev :y hth
just asking what is your perception of what the sports button does :question
-
all it does it hold gears for longer, and let it rev to the red line.
Ohh and it also locks out 4th, will always stay in 3rd no matter what speed you do...

That sounds like why my gearbox is fooked. last owner must have been a sports button maniac :(

ok never tired to see if the thing to see if the revs are higher but will have ago, i dont think i will use it that much anyway i value my fuel to much

Get up to about 60 in top gear, ease back on the loud pedal, press the button, system should drop a gear. This sequence can be done in all gears.
If you want to try the heavy handed approach, stationary, select sports mode. floor it in a straight line, revs should rise to just below the red line in all gears before changing, and it should never go into top.

Mine goes into top when it runs out of revs in 3rd at <mumble> MPH. :-X

Surely if you floor it you will have it on the kick down switch and it'll hold the gears anyway?

126 apparently!!
Funnily enough mine only stays in 3rd SINCE the gearbox update!!
Before it used to change up on the red line, now it doesn't!!
Is there an update of the update??
Oh and back on topic, the 'S' button means it also kicks down earlier :)

Sure mine goes into 4th in sport :-/

Mine definitely does! :y

I thought its just 4th without lockup....

i use the "s" button a lot as i find it a bit too laggy without it - on a side issue - do the gearboxes on Mig's adjust their mapping as to how you drive? i remebmer my Galant auto had "fuzzy logic" that "learned" how you drove and changed gear accordingly - ie drive like a nutter - and it would rev higher in each gear (there was also a "hold" button in addition) but if you drove like an old lady it would slowly learn to change at lower revs

The gearbox ECU does adapt to driving style as far as I know. I need the S button for fast overtakes as I spend most of my time cruising below 3000 and if I floor it the car kind of looks up from its knitting and says, "Did you want to go somewhere dear? Just let me get my handbag..."

Only on certain firmwares. All newer ones will pop into top when you run out of revs in 3rd...

Remember with tractors, redlining it isn't necessarily the fastest way. Sports still increases revs before changing, and changes down earlier, but not as pronounced as the petrol maps...
