Hi all,
Im currently looking at getting an ex police 3.2 Omega 2003 reg, saloon , unmarked patrol car. Ive had a look at it, and yes there are a few holes where the police equipment was, and have seen the police print out.
Overall it seems to be a great car a drives ok...
One thing that is playing on my mind was the coolant level was very very low, but no visible leeks?
Could this be a head problem or am I just being picky?
The milage of the car is 130,000 and the cambelt etc was replaced at 124,000 miles by the police mechanics...
Could really use your advice

The HG are generally very reliable on the GM V6.
IF there is a leak, far more likely to be HBV, or something in the valley...
-
Have a look at the HBV mate, usually first port of call for water leaks.
it is situated behind the plenum.
I have pasted a link so you can see what the HBV looks like :y

or a combination like was mine..
HBV, oil cooler area, heater matrix ..
And can be from thermostat area also..

Thanks all for the advice,
hopefully it will all be ok,
what are the fuel figures , ie how much would It cost to fill a tank if petrol is around 1.13 a litre, and if I keep at a steady 60mph on a 50 mile trip what should I expect to get from a full tank?? 300 miles?

Depends really on if your knocking about or longer runs....
Mark DTM & Debs seem to get mega Range from a tank of fuel which costs about £70
-
Thanks for that info,
only really do longer runs at 60mph...
what sort of distance do they get on there runs on a full tank?
More than 300 miles?

Pretty sure Mark said he got about 450-500 I could be wrong but I was gobsmacked when he told me.
Debs posted quite some time ago how many to the gallon she got, think she was getting 42 mpg
-
Thanks for that,
wow, Im a sensible driver so lets hope I can get around the same figures....
Thanks again for the info, cant wait to get mine now, at the end of the month...

The only reason I was gobsmacked with Mark, was because each time I have sat in with him... he ain't been a sensible driver ;D ;D ;D
-
Although these cars perform well on constant figures like 60 mph,
dont expect similiar figures in a start stop traffic from 1.7 ton monster..
-
Sure,
fully understand that,
Its good to know on those long journeys I do it hopefully will be ok,
I work shifts , so usually miss heavy traffic so should be ok.

Best i got out of my 3.0 and it was fully loaded going on holiday could not get another thing in it was 32.4 mpg.
I was impressed with that :y

mpg depends very much how you drive it. Round town in bit of a rush about 18, 21 if your carefull. Motorways you should get 350 ish from a tank, keeping to the limit ish. Left lane with miss daisy in the back at 60 about 450 plus, depending on your patience. So i rarely get more than 350. ::)

I drive a 3.0ltr from Portsmouth to Ayr on a regular basis and generaly make it on a full tank unless I get held up on the M6. Trip is 435miles. So I believe the Omega is economical if not thrashed. I normaly set the cruise control at just on 70 but I must admit that I do these trips as overnight runs so very rarely hit a lot of traffic.

As per the previous comments really... My 3.0 will easily return mid 30's on a run at around 70-75. I used to get over 300 miles to the tank on my shorter runs to work (18 miles each way) as long as I behaved myself!
All pretty irrelevant to me now as I run it on LPG and it's even more economical to run! :y :y

Best I've ever seen is 32.? but I had to borrow a halo to do so! :y

On a legal speed long distance motorway run, they can return very respectable mpg. Around town, they ain't good.
Best I managed was on a holiday to South of France (the time when it made it back under its own steam!), so round trip of around 2k miles, going there and back on toll roads, but including all the use down there as well, returned 32mpg. This was in my 3.0l auto MV6, and did include some 130mph runs to catch up with friends car when I got stuck behind lorries etc...
