Title: petrol cons gone down last 2 tanks??
Post by: Richie London on 20 September 2008, 19:10:15
my consumption seems to have gone down to 15-16 @ gallon this last 2 weeks. cant figure out why, it even stalled at the lights tonight coming home from work.
has new crank sensor, new plugs in april i think, breathers were cleaned 10 days ago, no oil leaks, no water loss. no codes at all

any ideas ???

Last question, Does she warm up and run at about 95c  or is she running cold.
Without a code its hard to tell what may be wrong.
If she's running cold that may account for the drop in fuel ecconomy, then you would need to change the thermostat

no temp is normal, shes running as she was just consumption seems low all of a sudden and it just cutting out at the lights, had trouble starting it again, has new fuel filter 3 months ago,

could it be my leads, they do look a bit old to be honest

I wonder if your Coolant Temperature Sensor is starting to die?  Could be telling the ECU lies about the state of engine warm-up, yet not be dead enough to throw a code.

I lied  ;D
Another question, can you smell neat petrol when she's running and have seen any staining underneath or on the driveway
 As in petrol leak.
Check the clips on the fuel filter and all the pipes before condeming the HT leads
Maybe worth getting in contact with someone with a Tech 2

ive checked the fuel filter, i have no sense of smell due to continous operations on my sinuses. ive asked my son but he cant smell anything. when i did my rocker gaskets and oil and auto box fluid change i cleaned all oil off bottom of sumps, still dry now, not a drop of oil anywhere either.  could  i of dislodged a lead when i removed plenum last week

Im a member of the Sinus suffers anon as well, so sympathy on your affliction.
I suppose that all of the vacum tubes are fitted and in good order I mangaged to dink one and it woundnt change down unless I hit kickdown.
The only other thing is take for a good old fashioned blast a blow all the crud out and it may just come back :y

have a look into the multirams, it could be a couple of things causing it but the fact that its been worked on recently could mean a vac pipe or electrical connector is causing a multiram to play up. There is a guide in maintenance
section, but basically give the engine a good blip while you watch them from the engine bay and you should see them move. 1 on inlet to plenum,1 at back of plenum look from pass side iirc. The tick over/stalling "could" just be the icv needs a clean and be a seperate issue. Just a thought.

Re-trace your steps following the recent work....pay attention to the breather pipes and check the base of the large breather for splits.
