Hi All
Mum's car (1999 2.5 mini facelift) cuts out at idle occasionally. It is a newish engine only done less than 10,000 miles, I have cleaned all the breathers and the EGR valve and replaced the idle control valve.
Did fault codes yesterday and came up with:
13 temparature sensor
15 i think oxygen sensor
19 crank sensor
As it was getting dark only had time to replace crank sensor. I have a spare temparature sensor, but need to wait till weekend to fit it.
The car idles perfectly for anything from 5 minutes to one week.
It gives no warning, just cuts dead. resatrts instantly.
Any thoughts please.

My money would be on the crank sensor ... :y :y :y
-
Does it only do this when the ECC is off? I had the same problem...
-
Had this on my V6 - usually cut out when going into roundabout!!
Only code was a 19. Replaced crank sensor - problem less but still happened. Cleaned ICV - cured. May be worth you checking ICV as this doesn't cost (apart from a little time) - or may be a dodgy ICV?
A code 19 means crank sensor is dodgy & will let you down.

Does it ever stall when the car is in motion?
-
Hi all
Thanks for the replies, the car never stalls whilst in motion, climate control makes no difference at all,
Is ICV idle control valve ? if so new one fitted very recently.

Does it stutter then stall or is it a nice clean stall?

It is very clean stall, just like turning off the engine. No stutter at all.

I'd put my money on the crank sensor... Mine was exactly the same!!!
It's not unheard of for it to throw up other codes too

Any problems starting from cold (hesitation etc?)

No starts perfectly, 99% of the time, although she did say about a month ago it would not start one morning, left it for 5 minutes and it fired up straight away, she has only just told me this !!! Mothers.

Crank sensor..

Sounds like what mine was doing about a couple of years ago... New sensor sorted it!
Again, mine is doing the same - is it normal for crank sensors to have a two year life span?

new parts generally dont have the same life time as the first original on the car..possibly..

Not sure how, gen GM part - same as one fitted in the factory?

I've seen many GM parts come in to VX/Opel shops with GM brand on it suffer in quality..
One very close example was the complete GM exhaust that I paid
350 £ >:( When I first saw it , I ask the people are you sure this is not done somewhere else here and you stick the GM labels ;D

Sorry to bring this back to the top of the help page again.
But thought I would share with you the outcome. It was indeed the crank sensor, and none of the other fault codes are now showing.
Thanks for all the help.

Awesome mate, I'm in exactly the same position - stalling at idle, quick diagnostic - rpm sensor, code 19!
This one lasted 2 years, got a new one sitting at home awaiting fitting tonight!
