Post by: Kate on 25 September 2008, 13:08:21
Is it possible to fit cruise control to any mig or does it have to be a particular model/spec?

Thanks for any help! :y

Easy enough to fit to any MIG, you just need to source an indicator stalk, actuator and new brake pedal switch

It will probably take 1-2 hours with tea breaks to fit.  Absolutely well worth it I would not be without it!

It's Guy's 99 model saloon.  I would love cruise control but as some of you know I'm kind of useless. :'(

What you think of as easy would be like mastermind for me! ;D

Its really very easy to do Kate...bolt on a box to some already existant bolts (3 bolts, 3 nuts) Clip on the lead...remove existing indicator switch and replace with cruise version of switch (undo cowling 4 screws unclip switch at top and bottom and unclip wiring connector then do opposite for fitting) and fit switch under brake and clutch pedal (bit fiddly but easy to do)...can supply pictures with kit no problem :)

Its quite easy Kate, just take your time, and try to do it when you don't need car for a day or so to remove that pressure.

Hardest bit, imho, is those pesky brake and clutch switches, that are more awkward that difficult

There is a red plastic lock gubbins that sits around the actuator plunger.  Slide that away from the switch body to where the actuator sits onto the pedal.  This allows the tangs on the side of the switch to be depressed and the switch removed.

I think.....   ;)

Ohhhhhh!!! Yeah could see the little tangs that needed to be squeezed together to pushthe switch out...but couldnt work out why they wouldnt depress...

When I tried mine, I have some sort of pump in the place where you're supposed to mount the box so I gave up and it's been sitting in my boot for about a year now  :-[

that the aux circulation pump that was randomly fitted as part of a cold weather pack.  Look at the hot too as there is an easy fix:  in short:

1. go to a scappy and get a rubber mount for the aux pump that fits on the near side of the radiator.  get that and the clips that hold it in

2. drill the top flang of the cruise module and fix the rubber mount there and of couse put your aux pump in it.

3.  check nothing is fouling the water pipes and you're done
