Went to do my 20 min oil change. turned into Hour & 20. The metal end of the filter (spurious) came off & stuck down the bottom of the can I nearly resorted to takink the can off it was so awkward to get out. The GM filters have plastic ends. I have also found that the Felt on the ends of the spurious come adrift. Never again!!!!!

the old u coded 2.5tds are best cos they have metal ended paper filters with rubber seals. and only needs 13mm socket to get em out instead of the great big socket that only just gains access

agreed!! but you can fit the olderstyle 13mm to the newer cars!!! :y

Never have issues with my never style type. And the filters are half the price as older type from dealer on TC...

just done the oil & filter change on mine, 15 mins & back in for a cuppa :y, the only thing i was confused about was that the filter came with 2 copper washers, 1 tiny rubber "o"ring & a big "o"ring. couldnt find where the little one goes nor one of the copper washers, so fitted one copper washer to the top of the bolt & the big "o" ring to the top[exactly as it came out]. no leaks so it must be o,k, does anybody know where these left over washers belong?? i have the alloy bodied cannister.

3 rubber o rings all fit on the shaft that goes through filter. I know when everything is plastered in tractor blood, they are a pig to see.
1 of the copper washers is for sump plug I believe

now i am confused TB, as the long bolt didnt have anything on it apart from the copper one at the head, i thought the same as you about one for the sump plug but it was way too small & the little rubber o`ring [there was only 1]was so small you would have trouble getting it over a pencil,oh well no leaks & new filter, it dont get much better than that :y

Wonder if you have the o ring pack from later filter? Got some in garage, will get a piccy over weekend...

cheers for that TB, come to think of it he was juggling both types about on the counter!, so i pulled my car outside the door & he confirmed alloy canister, thank god the filter was the correct one [especially with my luck ;)]

the tiny o ring fits in a groove onthe end of the long bolt that is inserted.

thanks for that diesel!, well im not taking it back off now to put it on ;), & i think the last person to do it [vx garage] didnt know either as it wasnt there!, or is it important? but i will remember for next time :y
