Title: O2 sensors - open circuit?
Post by: BazMV6 on 24 September 2008, 20:36:17
Just got the miggy back from the garage.  New plug leads, coil pack, and cam cover gaskets - but at least it's running better now.   :y

But I got a flickering engine management light on the way home, so decided to paperclip it.  I'm getting codes 89 and 13 - which the guide describes as "O2 Sensor 1 & 2 open circuits".  Does this mean they've nicked my O2 sensors??  :-?

They're probably not plugged in. If the downpipes had to come of for some reason they'd be unplugged. They plug in under the car not far away from the gearstick. One socket each side.

Ah - possibly not replaced properly when I had the exhaust done a couple of months back...   >:(

Running the engine without them connected can bu66er them, too! Without the sensor heaters powered, they can run too cool and carbon can collect on them. Bear this in mind if they do turn out to be unplugged, and don't recover when reconnected.

Quick update - sensors are connected OK, but readings are erratic.  Presumably bu66ered by my recent misfire.  2 new ones on order.

So "open circuit" does not necessarily mean "not there"...   :-?
