The engine tick-over has started tobe either 600rpm or 850rpm, ie not 'hunting' but sometimes one or the other, why !!
The engine is very smooth no mis-fire, no other problems, checked breathers which were clean, cleaned ilde valve :-/

is it random, or does it have the higher rpm always when starting, or are is it dependant on what gear your in etc.

No it's randoom at normal running temperture, i've checked loads of things but can't make any sense of it ?

Thanks for the emails & telephone calls, checked leads, contectors, sprayed WD40 around breathers, no results. At times it's as if the 'ecu ?' thinks the engine is cold and increases the rev like being on 'auto choke'. ie at 850rpm but it stays there, a few times over the weekend it reverted back to 600rpm once or twice. To answer another question it is either 850 or 600, it is not hunting between the two.
What else could it be, ideas please. :-/

Mine did this about a week ago... I've no idea what caused it, however I gave it a boot full down a quiet road, and its been fine since ;D

Strange you say that, since the end of July (made redundant) all I have been doing are local short runs, I have one or two things to check then I will take it for a blast.

Is the aircon kicking in?
Its about the difference you would expect for aircon on/off

Mine has those two figures (roughly), which one is used is dependant on if the climate control is on auto or eco.
One thing that puzzles me, maybe someone can enlighten me. Why is it that when the climate control is on auto does the idle remain higher all the time. In other cars I've had the revs only increase when the air con kicks in and then drops again when it has done. It would seem a waste of fuel to have it idling higher all the time. Any ideas?

AFAIK, compressor runs all time when auto is on* so will have higher rpm.
* except on initial starting, and if outside temp close to freezing.

Thanks for the ideas, yesterday disconnected plugs, sockets, fuses, relays and sprayed the lot with 'switch cleaner & WD40.
Today tick-over spot-on 600rpm, driven 60miles in mixed conditions and every time when at a stand still 600rpm.
So I have done something but what !!!
I am not even going to open the bonnet.

Yes, if you press 'auto' the compressor will run until you press 'eco'
The problem I had was strange, it deffo wasn't the compressor, as the idle speed was about 50rpm LOWER with the compressor running! Turned it off, and the idle went up :-/ Sorted itself out after I gave it a thrash down a road. ;D
