Title: Intermittent coolant leak - help please
Post by: Rob James on 03 October 2008, 11:54:42
Hi,

My Omega has developed a coolant leak. It seems to occur overnight rather than when I'm driving. However it doesn't happen all the time. Some mornings there is a lot of coolant on the drive, other mornings there isn't any. The leak is coming from the back of the engine somewhere - I can't see it (but then I don't really know what I'm looking at!).

Any ideas where it could be leaking? I don't want to take it to the garage if it isn't leaking at the time,  as they may not find the problem and it will have cost me money for nothing.

Thanks,

Rob.

Heater bypass valve sounds the most likely cause to me. There are how to's in the technical section.

Can the HBV be the cause of intermittent leaks then?

Yes it can.....because it operates in different positions, it appears to affect the rubber seals and hence sometimes they leak and sometimes they dont!
