Title: Cambelt on 2.2 petrol
Post by: mars on 04 October 2008, 20:47:47
The cambelt on our 2003 2.2CD was done at 40k in 2005. The receipt states next change at 80,000 or 4 years. The car is now on 62k and will probably cover no more than 5k in next twelve months. Should we follow 4 years rather than mileage? Advice appreciated. :y

or put another way, if it takes you say 6 years to do 40k, then change the belt,  pulleys and tensioners 4 years from the date of the last change.

its not the belt that fails, its the tensioners, if they just slip you in trouble

Rememer when we did yours tunnie - the tensioner had completely given up the ghost and was backed right off!!

I also did one for a member a few months ago - and it was so slack, I managed to remove his cambelt by hand, without undoing any tensioners at all  :-? ;D

Nope... 2.5 BMW TD is chain, the 2.2 DTi is chain (i think!?!)

V6's always remained belt driven.

You did a top job, it totally changed the feel of the engine when we you did it.

When i bought the car i asked for the whole lot to be done, but they just did the belt.  >:(
