hi i would try wd.40 first thats what happened to mine and it sorted it out temp..
but change the barrel as i got married 2 years ago and left my car at my dads ,when i went day after to fetch it and go away i had the same prob again and to buy new barrel.
you could go scrap yard and get one off and change the pins inside to match tour key ..

..........or they might sell you one with a key,if its from a car which isnt good enough to keep the doors etc and thus needing the whole lockset kept complete.

Frustrating as heck this, we had to get the AA out earlier this year. :'(
One thing you should try (especially if you've been bashing the back end of the key in frustration), is to insert the key a bit less than completely into the lock barrel. I guess there's some sort of depth-stop at the end of the barrel that can get bent, allowing the key to go in too far.
Once the AA man had got me 'in' such that I could get the barrel off, it became clear that the key was going in about 2-3mm too far, and so the tumblers of the lock were no longer lining up correctly with the cuts in the key (if pushed in all the way).
The tumblers, and the inside of the barrel, will probably need a bit of fettling ( see http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1213353737) if you do manage to get it off. Replacement is probably a better option if funds allow. I was too tight for that so a small tyrap around the hilt of the key has been an ongoing solution to the 'key goes in too far' problem. Fettling of the tumblers isn't too tricky. :y
If you do try to refurb the barrel, take your time, and write down which 'number' tumbler (they're all stamped) goes where down each side of the thing if you take them right out. Note: if you pull the key out with the barrel out of the lock the tumblers are free to fall out!
Best of luck,
Pete

squirt WD40 down the ignition barrell (where you insert key) - this may work temporarily - it has done for me in the past - good luck
-
wd.40 straight down in side the where the key goes , get a small screwdriver to open it up then squert it down inside . :y
-
You can buy 3-in-1 oil in an aerosol these days, much better bet. WD40 is primarily a Water Dispersant, not a lubricant.
-
thank u so much
wd 40 worked . how long i can live with that ?
-
glad your up and running , try and look round for a replacement for spare just in case it breaks for good ,,

If you have lots of keys on the keyring remove them so you minimise the load on the key and lock.
-
ok i ll try to change the BARREL + KEYS
do i have to removw the steering ?
or is there any way to remove the upper cowl bolt with out removing
the steering
-
I think there is a guide in the maintenance section. :y
-
yes mate i had to remove the steering wheel , MAKE SURE U DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AND WAIT A COUPLE OF MINUTES TO DE-ACTIVATE THE AIR BAG ..
U shall have to turn the key in to position 2 i think and at the end of the barrel,or on the side there is a small hole put a tiny screwdriver in it ,you should then be able to remove the barrel but take care .
do not remove your key otherwise the pins shall fall out and then your screwed. :y

thank you so much to all of you

HI I,m new to this forum but I can help with this one. You can remove the ignition barrel without removing the steering wheel, first you have to remove the shroud then using a bent wire about 20mm bent end stiff but not too large locate the release hole in the alloy housing (haynes manual will poss help to identify) put key in the barrel and turn whilst depressing pin through release hole, barrel should pop out. It's a little tricky but can be done. If you stip barrel and clean parts and grease lightly (I used silicone) & rebuild you may find when key is in the barrel some of the brass fingers are not pulled back into line with the barrel this is what stops it turning. if you file these so they are smooth you should have no further trouble till it wears again. refitting you just push it back into the housing until it clicks into place. but ensure you push the locking pin back thats inside the housing before push the barrel in. As long as you can turn the steering wheel (ie steering lock off) you should be able to remove the shrouds.
Get this sorted soon as if you can't get the key to turn you will have all sorts of much bigger problems.
