Title: gearbox ecu...
Post by: ngrainqey on 07 October 2008, 22:16:49
hiya, iv had my drivers kickpanel off to take my gearbox ecu off and put one on for an ar35.... there's two boxes.. one for the imobiliser and then theres the gearbox ecu - unless im wrong.

i got an ar35 ecu but the plugs are different to what is the nearer of the two boxes in comparison... will it not go on at all or are there different connector plugs/sockets depending on year for example?

thanks

can provide pictures if you want btw

You do not need to change gearbox ecu

rly? why not?

*edit:
i read your post "theboy" about only having to change the gearbox ecu depending on engine, i'v swapped mine from a 2.0 to a 2.5 so that means i'd need to change it or still not need to change it?

thanks

youve picked up a later type ecu with 2 rows of pins instead of 3 i take it, anyhow one of the boxes youve found [the grey one] is for central locking, if i were you i would try your original as TB says you dont have to change the ecu for a box change, if it doesnt work then obviously youll have to find a 2.5 auto but if i remember correctly itll have to be a pre 97 as thats when the ecu`s changed design, failing that i wonder how the 3.0 ecu would behave as they are both v6`s? perhaps an early 3.0 would be another option to go for??

just to add, if you get another ecu try & get it with the plug that goes into it [itll have to be cut],then do a comparison just in case the wiring configuration is different, in which case you might have to re-pin yours to suit, fiddly but can be done. ;)
