Hi all , noticed yesterday the carpet was wet on the front passenger side - checked coolant level - not dropped - so must be rain coming in. Lifted carpet back today and found the ' spongey' floor insulation was significantly wet - i cleaned out the well where the pollen filter / air intake is and am now drying out the insulation / carpet with newspapers - windscreen seal looks ok - Anyone else had similar problem ???? Am told water leaks notoriously hard to find !!

scuttle drains are blocked

Yep....me, took me 5 days to dry out all the sponge........took it all out and put it in the airing cupboard......all water came from the pollen filter drain being blocked, check the rear under carpets also as it will run that way.
You will need more than newspaper, i took the lot out.

From this I guess it was blocked ?? If so that was the probable source of the water ingress - must be kept clear or major problems occur.
If this was the case you have probably solved the problem simply by clearing that drain .. :)

Hi all this is my first post so go easy on me, I have got the same problem in the rear footwell with water coming into the cab but the seals are great. I can pour water all day on the back of my omega and no leak i looked in the nearside pollen filter area today at the front of the car and found at least 10 inches of water in the void i then cleared that area of water and dirt now it flows straight through is this the end of my problem i hope so time will tell. :y

Probably..... :y
Bet you parked your car on a slope, with the front uphill??

Another place where water can get in is a sunroof when the drains in each front corner are blocked
Water flows down the back of the interior trim & out into footwell
Clear them gently with a length of plastic coated net curtain suspension wire like your Granny used to use
To get water out use a wet & dry Vaccuum without the filter. I removed gallons from the thick felt under the carpets when I drove into floods, then pray for lots of hot weather to dry out the rest!

yep it was parked on a hill can't remember the direction. The drains are clear on the sunroof and no signs of water damage on the roof lining, but thanks for the advice guys the weather has been fine here for the past 3 days the car is now bone dry lets just hope it stays that way. watch this space. ;)

Air conditioning condensor buried deep in dashboard is also a possibilty...not sussed our problem yet tho :-[

My passenger side was soaked after all the rain a while ago ..... cleared the drains in the pollen filter area and its been fine since .... its a common problem :-/
-
Everytime I lift the bonnet first thing I check is the scuttle drains, I had the passenger side blocked 18 months ago.
I advise anyone who has had this problem to regularly check especially if you park near trees or hedges like me. The amount of crap that gets down there needs to be cleared.
It's best to remove all of foam sound insulating material under the carpets front and back to get it properly dry. I had to cut mine out to get it properly dry, it does take a while to dry cause it's like a big sponge holding water. Some have used a wet n dry vac to suck it out, it needs to be dried out properly or it will start to stink like a bad drain.

Make sure you unblocked the drain properly; stuff a hosepipe down the hole and see running water coming from underneath. Theres also a drain on the otherside (D/S) do that as well. Do them regularly as part of your maintenance schedule, they easily block up with leaves, mud and crap. :) :) :)

Obviously don't have hosepipe attached to the tap on the wall ::) :y
