I have finally fitted all I need for cruise - actuator, stalk and brake switch, but it doesn't work :'( Is there any way of working out which bit is the dud?

When i fitted mine i had to go to Vx to have it activated .... mines an autobox petrol .... dont know if you will be the same :-/

Thats just for the drive by wire (2.2, 2.6, 3.2) engines
old ones dont need tech2.

i had the SAME problem, one of the pins needs a constant (fused) live feed from the + battery, i had to run a single core cable to one of the pins (some cars that are not made with cruise as standard dont have the correct wiring - I CAN'T remember which pin it is.......i will see if i can still identify my old engine loom and let you know tomorrow.
hopefully its just that

I'd start by checking the power feeds at the cruise multiplug. This will enable you to check whether the wiring loom is sending the right info to the actuator. See the post here for more info

I think there are a variety of wiring loom configuations out there but they all end up sending the same signals to the actuator (i think)
if you are convinced that the correct power feeds are getting through then I would move on to mechanical issues: double check the bowden cable in the top of the actuator - making sure it is connected to the yellow strip.

double check the bowden cable in the top of the actuator - making sure it is connected to the yellow strip.
Is that the yellow bit hanging down in this picture?

That I suppose should attach to something in the cable? I don't see how it does though, I'll go and have a fiddle....

That does seem to be the issue! I cannot get the yellow bit to attach to the "pin" inside the cable though. Any tips?

Aha! it now works! didn't realise you could disconnect the cable from the throttle and push the "pin" bit back out.
