Help Required please!!
Just reassembled everything after replacing the cam cover gaskets and cleaning out all the oil breather system.
Engine started ok and ran without trouble for about 10 minutes, with just a little smoke from spilt oil burning off.
Went for a test run, and within 3 minutes the engine management light came on. Paperclip test gave 12, 17, & 73.
What is wrong please??
PS also seem to have a plastic pipe floating around at the back of the engine, around the HBV and oil breather pipes, with seemingly nothing to connect it to! ::) ::) ::)
Is this usual; is there a end of a pipe that has nothing to attach to? It is about 3/8ths" round with no sign of it ever being connected (the end is in mint condition) with no marks of even a jubilee clip or use. ::)
Everything else has been connected to all available outlets / inlets!
I now feel out of my depth and pretty miserable! :'( :'( I am not as good at mechanics on these modern cars as I used to be; oh for a man in my life who can sort things out! ::) ::) ::)

yes,2.5 listed under paper clip test in maintenance section bottom of page 1. Maf is on the air intake, follow air box pipe to engine, first thing in line is the maf. Look for electrical connector unplugged. Or damaged wiring to it. Knock sensor i beleive is favourite for getting trapped when doing cam covers. I have never had problem with knock sensor so dont know where it is.
Basically you need to re trace your steps and make sure everything is plugged back in and no wires are trapped in the cam covers. Hope helps. :-)

17 - Knock Signal Circuit 2 - Check the state of the knock sensor cable on the passenger side bank. You will notice in the guide how we tell you to be careful not to trap the cable under the cam cover. The cable is near the cam sensor on the front of no 4 cam (by the battery. Make sure it is pluged in to the main loom by where the large branch of cables to the ECU splits off
73 - Maf Voltage low - This sudgests a vac leak or similar so check the likes of the main brake servo pipe and large breathers for security but, concentrate on the 17 first as this can be fl
The extra large pipe sounds like the slush box breather pipe...and should connect to nothing.

Go for the 17 - you may have damaged kncok sensor cable, easily done, and quite common. Cable can be repaired.
MAF fault may disappear once knock sensor fixed, it sometimes throws an erroneous code. If not, look for airleaks, particularly under plenum area, or vac pipes not plugged back in.

I'd say airleak, probably the loose pipe that's floating about? I get knock sensor codes on mine when my lpg mixture is too lean and the MAF code could also suggest the same.
Don't know the layout of the v6 engine so can't help where the pipe is from. If you can get a photo uploaded I'm sure someone will know where it's meant to go.

As already said, thanks for all this, but can I ask one more favour?
Can you post pictures of the potentially offended components, like knock sensor and the cam sensor etc? The guides I have been studying do not seem to clearly indicate which ones these are (for me anyway!! ::) ::) ::))
I am an old fashioned mechanic who is still getting used to these new fangled cars and don't know what the hell I am looking at if it is not a regular thing, ie like fuel pump!! ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ;D ;D ;)

No pics but the knock sensor wire tucks in round the front corner of the cam cover (near the battery) and plugs in just on that corner - very easy to leave unplugged.
