Hi has any one bought carin sat nav discs off e bay. Looking for the 2008 disc but weary of being sent a copy. Any way of telling if there genuine by looking at the photo.

Ask the seller...if they say it is and it isnt, then you can get your money refunded by paypal...

I think 2007 is the latest for Carin anyway....

I bought a genuine Navteq (Siemens NCDR/C) disc from ebay.de and it arrived within four days and was - as advertised - an original.
Found German sellers prices are better than UK

Youre right about Germen sellers. Just win the 2008 Tele Atlas Disc with best offer of £30 .00 buy it now was £39.95.

I bought a VDO Dayton disc off ebay. "Genuine - Original - Not a copy" etc. You guessed it - a copy. I raised a dispute and got my money back, including postage.
Seller is no longer registered with ebay.
But beware! The disc was as good a copy as you could want. It looked absolutely original. The disc was professionally printed, metallic sheen very nice.
There were two ways to detect the copy - Firstly, when inserted into my PC with NERO running, the disc info stated 'CDR' present. A genuine disc shows 'Read-only CD Rom'. Secondly, in tiny writing around the centre were numbers and letters including RFD80M, which tells you that it's a CDR. These were hidden from the top by the printing.
Also, Navteq discs have printing on the inner hub which has a 'rainbow' effect just like the playing surface.
Beware suspiciously low prices, although high price is no guarantee.
Hope this helps, Peter.

Just got my new disc yesterday. Big difference on the 1997 one that was in.

In what way?

Seems more acurate. More points of interest. Bang up to date. It now shows my location exact & not two roads out.
-
Perhaps I ought to get one then .. I'm working off a 2002-1/15.0 "Navtech on board"
:(

Accuracy not determined by map - generally if the roads are digitally mapped, they are accurate.
New maps will obviously be more up to date.
Carin can be sluggish on latest maps when entering destination, but fine when in use :y
