Title: auto box problem
Post by: kris9128 on 15 October 2008, 12:33:11
need to top up/ change fluis in auto box. problem is the level plug/bolt is rounded off. is it much of a job to remove the whole sump. are there any things i should be aware of before i remove it. i already have replacement level bolt and gasket.

Just that you will be dropping all the fluid over the floor, so take reasonable precautions to catch as much as you can.  also be carefull when torqueing up the sump bolts, quite easily shred the thread. think its 12nm. hth

Assuming yuo cant weld it yourself, just get someone to weld a nut to the plug and the heat will help free it, then put spanner on and undo? :y

you can get the atf out by taking the sump of,but you cant refill it that way.As said if mole grips etc, dont work ,heat it or weld a nut to it. :y

KRIS, is it a 13mm plug or the hex key type?, if its the 13mm you could try a 1/2" socket as they are a fraction smaller, are you using a 6 sided socket?, they fit more snug & less likely to round off, failing that get a 12mm socket & whack it onto the plug head as far as you can, this can also aid in breaking its seating so to speak,if the plug is a hex key type then mole grips is your best option even though there is only a small lip/head to grip onto,,,,good luck mate :y
