Title: Trouble Starting?
Post by: Dave-C on 10 October 2008, 10:40:26
I'm having a few starting problems with my 3.0l Meega, paper clipped it and no codes ::)  Engine will turn over and over and over, I try foot to the boadrds, I try accelerator left alone, it eventually starts.  It's happening cold and hot, i do have a slight mis-fire at low revs, other than that....  Any ideas?

No leaks on the HBV, checked all the obvious :(

Hi Dave

Could it be the crank sensor.....If it, s on the way out may not be pulling up a code as yet....

TBH, my thoughts too....  it had a new Siemans branded on fitted 18 mths ago...   you'd think it would last longer than that!

Thanx :y

Still having this problem, no fault codes still!  It's letting us down when we need the car for important appointments!

Any other suggestions  :-/

Low fuel pressure or filter blocked
Loosen the high pressure feed then get someone turn the ignition on for 1 or 2 seconds.

agree with above sounds like a fueling problem to me get hold of a fuel pressure gauge and watch it it should go up to arround 3 bar instantly if it doesn`t i would suspect the pump. :y

Must be honest. I've not checked for a spark yet, and the fuel filter was changed within the last 12mths, it does seem to do it more often when the car is parked drivers side to kerb, i.e. car on a tilt, could be a fuel thing!!!

My guess would be crank sensor. Never got any codes when mine started to fail but problem disappeared when I changed it.

I had a similar sounding problem when starting my 2.0. It just sometimes wouldn't start when hot or cold, it turned out to be the fuel pump intermitently working. But it didn't misfire, v6 probably needs alot more fuel pressure!
