I had my oil cooler changed recently, but am having trouble getting rid of the caramel looking sludge . I have flushed it with running water, followed by a rad flush. It is so sticky it is still in the system. I will change the coolant reservoir as i cant get the outer chambers clean. Is there a certain rad flush that anyone recommend that will get the stuff dislodged? Also i am not getting much heat out of the car heater, so assume it is all clogged with the stuff.

I seem to remember Omegatoy recommending a bit of bleach.
You might be better of disconnecting the matrix hoses from the engine bay, and using a hose directly to move the sludge.
the matrix hoses are quick release but I've never tried that hard to remove them, although MarksDTM demonstrated their easy removal. ::)

Had my oil cooler changed a few weeks ago and the guy that did it used a product call Jizzer i think, it did a good job as have not had a trace of oil in the system. I also had to get a new header tank as the old one was to hard to get all the oil out of.
As a tip it would be best to also replace the cap as the rubber seal will have been eaten away by the oil , as mine was. :y

the last time i saw JIZER it was an engine cleaner!, but saying that it would break down the oily gunk & it is water soluble so perhaps that is the answer, unless jizer are making other products all under one name. :-/

ive used the forte stuff serveral times and find it very good but will advise that it can sometimes take 3 bottles of it to completely clear the system :y

It's severe but apparently it does the job quickly: use engine degreaser like Gunk or Jizer. Probably a whole can in the 10litre cooling system. Run the car up to temp, let it cool, and then thoroughly flush it out.

Gunk and jizer are water soluble de greasers that are best used neat. if they are watered down in a cooling system they are not going to be as effective.
One thought I have had is using dish washer powder ( its great for cleaning hardened on veg. oil in deep fat fryers). It must be reasonably aluminium and rubber safe for short term use but not sure about long term. :-/ Anyone any thoughts on the pros' and cons?

A mate of mine used a dishwasher cleaner solution in his after an oil cooler failure, it shifted a hell of a lot of stuff... he added it to the water, ran it at fast idle for an hour, with the heater on max, then flushed and flushed and flushed with clean water, running at fast idle for 30 minutes between each fill.
Seemed to work out quite well as everything worked after ...
Long term effect is unknown as he changed the car 4 months later having sold his caravan...
I've phoned him and this is the stuff he used ..

seem to remember, one of the guys on here, had a blockage after the oil cooler went. He was flushing from the bottle for ages to no avail, somebody suggested removing the heater matrix pipes ,to the bulk head drivers side, and blasting with a hose pipe from there, think he said when he reversed the flow, backwards through the matrix a big lump of goop came out, seemed a more efficient way.
Sorry thats a bit vague, but another thing to try as Andy says.

Thanks for all the answers. I will try Jizer this weekend. The other suggestions may work, but i feel i will be doing it properly using something with a strange name :). If that doesn`t work , then i will try the other suggestions.
