Hi Everyone
Whilst driving to work this morning my 2.2 DTI Elite started making a siren alarm noise from under the bonnet. The engine was running and nothing seemed to be happening to the car other than this siren.
The actual car alarm as such uses the horn sounder so I am a little complexed as to what an earth is making this noise and why ? ? ? ?
Can anyone shed any light on this one please - I wouldnt be able to replicate the problem again as I havent got the foggiest idea what caused it?
Thanks in advance

There is also a siren as part of the alarm. It lives just under the plastic scuttle under the wipers on the driver's side. The batteries die & leak causing the problem you have/had. Disconnect it and shove it in a corner wrapped in a blanket (see other threads) till the battery is truely dead, & think nothing more about it! ::) ;) :y :y :y

Stop nicking cars and buy you're own!

There is enough room to remove the unit without taking off the bracket so only undo the small nut facing up on top of the sounder and slide it out.
New unit is around £58 +vat from the dealers if you decide to keep your system up to spec for the insarance.

I thought it was only the sounder I was removing, the main alarm uses the horn doesnt it ?

It is only the sounder you are removing but it is a component part of the alarm system fitted as standard therefore if you remove a part of it then you can fail on an insusrance claim especially as the sounder is there to protect the alarm system from the battery being disconnected.
It was personal prefereence to replace the sounder as the £58 investment is justified versus no payout if the car is stolen and discovered to have an incomplete alarm.
Insurance companies will use any method possible not to pay out!
