Title: motorbike insurance
Post by: tunnie on 04 November 2007, 16:40:40
I have done a few quotes on the side, came out about £450 on a 650cc tourer bike. This about right?

I am 23, 5 years NCB on the car, nothing for a bike

I will make a good £200 or so selling these Wii's - I was going to buy an iPod Touch as a pressie for myself, but my boss bought me one, along with iPhones on order, so don't need one of those.

Was thinking of taking a CBT, and having a few lessons - When in Miami i hired some 50cc scooters, they were great fun.

I quite like these bikes:

Any other suggesions for a bike 500cc to 750cc ish??

A CBT is only valid for 3yrs, and only allows up to 125.

After 3yrs (or if you want a proper bike), you need a full bike licence.

Take it from someone who knows, having a 'bump' on a bike bloody well hurts!

And to Martin Imber - any 4 cylinder 600 (or bigger) will walk all over any road car, even supercars.

Tunnie you might be better off with a bike that is slightly older so you can get classic bike insurance and they can still scare the pants off you :o

Yup, my 89 ZX10 counts as classic, faster than most things on 4 wheels. Supposedly capable of 165+mph, 0-100mph sub 10s.  But bloody heavy whe you drop it  :-[

And 6 cylinder 1050cc Hondas :-? And a CBR600 - my GSX600F was fast (or was I a nutter?)

But then even my 100cc bike would do a genuine 80mph

GSXR and CBR similar in performance.  Big Hondas (CBRs aside) are cruisers so may struggle to keep up with sports bikes...

Certainly would not recommend a Honda Duddsvile, however experienced or not you are......

Not fast, not comfortable, blown by the wind, lots of vibration on acceleration - generally, not nice....

We had a misguided gaffer who got two Duddsvilles as company bikes and, to be honest, they get the absolute nuts revved off them with no response whatsoever.  Flat out 85 downhill, both legs peddling hard and with a tailwind...

If looking for plain commuter, probably quite fine but, I would bet, you will get bored with it very very quickly.....   ;)

Not GSXR but GSX - cheapest of the 16V 600 sports.

The CBX was famous - did 140 and had the scariest engine EVER for hot hatches and sports cars, it said move over little car I have more cylinders for you, there was one on the back of the Saxon Denim & Leather album with Biff Byford on it. However my 600 was only 20bhp less, a lot more aerodynamic and about 6 years newer.

You asked for opinions of a Deuville and got one......   :o

If its your first 'big' bike then probably quite fine to cut your teeth on but, I would suggest, you will outgrow it very very quickly and be more than ready to move onto a real bike sooner rather than later.......

Perhaps the best rule of thumb is to look at what the courier biker peeps use in  London.....  See many deuvilles??

take it from there.......    ;)

I'd say it looks a bit girly.

I want another bike

Sports bikes are out - need my licence
BOF mobiles - I understand them now!
Big Traily - tempted
