Title: Trip to vauxhall - unsuccessful - what a surprise
Post by: Markie on 03 November 2007, 18:52:04
My local dealer disappeared overnight - honestly ! no one knows why.

Anyway took 4 phonecalls to the next nearest on Thursday to order a coolant pipe for the veccy v6 project car.

Untill i get this bit i cant complete the project.

So trecked off this morning to get said ordered and paid for part and lo and behold it hadnt turned up  >:( >:(

Parts man cant phone factory as its shut - so the vectra has to wait another week...turns out ( he showed me his stock invoice) that of 48 items ordered and deliverd only mine didnt turn up. TYPICAL.

Still that trip may cost me £16000  :o

As i came out i heard a wonderful dull deep roar and turned to see a stunning black 06 plated Vactra 2.8 V6 VXr Turbo being warmed up......thats a stunner.....unmarked black on 19" ten spoke alloys.....

So someone please talk me out of returning to see that car next week  :-? ::)

And someone please tell me theres a reliable vx dealer somewhere

I went to the Vx dealer in Truro this morning to get oil, filter, sump plug and anti-freeze. I had already phoned yesterday to make sure that everything was in stock. Turned up at 9.45 this morning to be told that the parts chap hadn't turned up to work and that they would not be able to serve me till the manager got there from Helston.

Spent 20 minutes looking at the used cars, not an Omega in sight, and then the manager arrived. I gave him my list of stuff and off he went. Came back five minutes later and said that they never had the sump plug. Luckily, at that, another fella from the workshop came out with one saying that he had one in his kit and popped it on the counter.

They then totted up the bill and told me that it was going to be £80. After I had picked myself up I looked at the oil he had given me and it was fully synthetic.

'That's not the right oil' I said.

'Yes it is', he said, 'Semi synthetic like you asked for'. So, once I had pointed out that the bottle said 'Super Synthetic' off he went and got me the right stuff.

The bill was now £40 which I paid with a heavy heart, knowing that I was being robbed blind.

Perhaps it's part of the franchise instruction kit.

Rule No1. The customer is not there to be served, he is there to fill our dreary existances whilst we try to extract every last penny we can out of him.

Sorry Markie. Vx dealers down here are no better than yours. The only problem is there's not another on in the county so I'm stuck with this one.  :(

Have to agree its FWD....

I can't really comment, I have never driven a veccy C. - Best I have done is sit in one at a dealer while waiting for my parts.

Have to say it felt very clostrophibic inside. Its much, much smaller inside than the Omega. Seats were very hard, and i had no leg room.

Have to say i would save the 10k, and spend 6k on a Supercharged XJ...

Or if you have 16k spare, a SuperCharged XKR.....  :y

Depends on the model tunnie.....as with most manu's the further up the range.....the more comfy the seats....expection poss sports models.....which will be hard usually but give more support

And theres usually a button or lever to make the seat go back  :y ;D

Very good point....

I'd still have one of these if i had markies budget:

But i would have something like this if i would be replacing my Omega:

Go to Arnold Clark at Sprinboig, just off the Edinburgh Road. It's the old Tomkins place across from the Lightburn Hospital.

The guy in parts is called Scott, tell him i recommended you go there for your bits, i think he might remember me and my meega, and he'll look after you. Top bloke.  :y

:)£16,000 for a bland estate albeit with a peachy engine? Not having a pop mate but £16k for a car?
I guess we all like different things & if you want it then fair enough, have it, but before you shell out have agood hard look at some more interesting/individual cars with some soul & character you could buy for the money, if you still want it ask yourself if the novelty will have worn off in 3 months. Despite being top spec & pretty rapid i imagine but even if i liked it i could'nt love a car like that.
Sorry Markie but you did ask to be put off. Having said that i'll pop into Immingham vx tomorrow & see if they've got one in. TEST DRIVE.
Who do you reckon can terrify a salesman first?!!!!!!!  [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

Oh yes, don't you have a lot of parts hanging about ?. Well here's a way to get individuality and save a few bob, (which we Scots like to do!!!).

I confess, if my wife wouldn't murder me if I bought it, I quite fancy this, given a few years to finish it.

Ken

PS just noticed, MarkDTM is kind a close perhaps he has a spare engine he could slot in.

Blimey, the old grey cells are working overtime tonight. I remember seeing one of these some 30 years ago, and thinking Wow!!!!!. It was even on the TV. And designed by a chap called Richard Oakes, who designed a lot of good cars, I think the Hustler, which was basically ply sheets glued together with a couple of mini subframes thrown in for good measure. Plus the Midas, the Pegasus (Paradine) the GTM Libra, and the Blackjack Avion.  And he was shorlisted for Aston Martin, his model was the Bulldog!.

Tricky tricky tricky! 16 grand is a fair whack for a car but it's not much for a BMW or Merc. What would sicken me more than anything is the savage depreciation on the vectra. Personally i'd keep my money tucked away for now and run the omega until it falls apart. Ppfffff, I don't know!?! Tricky  :-/

Fair play!

Least my dealer is normally quite good

We have 2, sort of linked lookers,

1, showroom, tiny parts desk, very little stock, they get it all same day from...
2, comercial lookers, van depot, very well stocked parts, always helpful, they love me as I always take the part no's

Well i must admit, i have found a vx Stealers, through a work mate of mine, that has turned out really good.

The head of mechanics is his best mate, and i now get 25% on all parts and all work done :y :y

They have at the Information point, a set of Irmscher Alloys that are Retailed at  800 pounds through Irmscher,

and want only 800 pounds  Including Pirrelli tyres 235 17 45

Minus 25% god if only i had the Money :'(

Three reasons:

1. It's a Vectra
2. It's a Vectra
3. It's a Vectra

Need any more? They don't handle and look hideous. If you want a nice sounding engine buy a Monaro, the V8 will sound 10x better than the TT V6, and is probably 10x more reliable too -- the 2.8 TT doesn't have a great record in that regard.

That's because it's electronically limited to 155 MPH, which is easily removed. It'll eat any standard Omega -- more power, less weight and the SMG gearbox is basically a manual that can shift bloody fast and has electronic launch control :)

GTM Libra, and the Blackjack Avion

 :-* :-* :-*

I've druelled over both of these at kit car shows.

... And just when I was thinking the Avion is the sort of car that would be a total scream to hoon around in and, with only 2cv power, it's not going to kill you... they bring out one with a VW flat 4 up front  8-)

If the lawnmower engine will fit, would a BMW flat twin fit?

If the VW4 will fit will a 911 engine fit?

Quite possibly, but I think if I was going for BMW bike engine power, I'd go the whole hog and get a Grinnall Scorpion. I can testify that they are properly mad!

I badly want to build another kit car :(
