Title: Bodyshop advice
Post by: murse on 19 October 2008, 18:33:04
Hi again  :)

Hope this is a permitted question - my meggy has fantastic bodywork with the exeption of the rear doors which are just starting to develop the dreaded bottom corner rot (thought facelifts had improved corrosion resistance - this is exactly the same as my 1995!)

I don't 'do' bodywork as a rule, but tempted to use a touch up stick or similar as very localised at the moment.

Preferred option would be to have it done properly but not keen to need whole panel respraying (silver metallic).  Can anyone recommend someone in the Cambridge (Cambridgeshire) area who might be able to do this for a reasonable price?  Have no idea where to start, cost of secondhand cars means people don't seem to bother these days unless accident damage.

Any advice much appreciated, as ever  ;)

I can recomend someone near Welwyn in Hertfordshire.  Possibly too far from Cambridge (50 miles - I know I cycled it a few years back).

I pressure wash under my arches (elsewhere too) and this avoids the wet dirt causing corrosion.  I did the same on my Senator previously and that was one of the few that didn't have rusty rear arches.  I use a 'gooseneck' on the pressure washer to clean in that awkward-to-get-to areas.  I only need to do this every few months, maybe a little more inthe winter after salt on the roads.
