Title: ARGGGGG Climate control has packed in, help!!!!!!!
Post by: tampon on 22 October 2008, 00:36:28
Not sure if any of these are related but figured tell you whats been happening and let you clever people tell me whats wrong, or at least where to look.

The climate control has never blown that cold since i got it, so thought a regas would sort it ( it was cool just not cold ). Haven't done that yet.

A week ago the radio started only playing out of the drivers side speakers occasionally, went back to stereo after I either turn the volume up or down or switched it off then on again.

Played a Cd in it for the first time this weekend at the same time ( not exactly as I used the cd player, but with in 10 minutes), the climate control started switching off ( the whole panel went dark, stop fans etc ) then would come on when I pressed a button on the panel. probably did this 3 times at the start of the 2hr journey fine for the rest of it. No idea if these are related.

Tonight the car started, radio working fine ( and the radio display ) but the climate control wouldn't switch on, no lights on that part of the display, no nothing. Had to drive with the windows down to demist the window and wear bloody hat and coat, not funny.

Any ideas ? as it is getting colder I can;t really do with out a car not being able to demist ( nothing is coming from the vents at all ), got away with it tonight and it wasn;t that bad.

Please help me, I am cold !

p.s. before this there was nothing wrong with the heater or demisters at all.

Thankyou./

What are OV connects and where would they be ?

Presuming the fuses are under the steering wheel, although I would have though with the control panel going off and then on it would be a fuse ( thought it would just go pop and that would be it )

by 0V means earth.

Does the compressor kick in?

Press the Off button, when the car is running on idle, press auto, you should hear a click, and revs will raise slightly.

No nothing at all, the display is dark, nothing happens, no air comes out no nothing, like it has been switch off at the mains.

Might be difficult to "turn off" if display is dead...?
Tamps, as you say, re fuse, your might expect it to just blow. But its not totaly unusual for a fuse to be hanging out of its locattor. While you check in the box(cupboard) under stearing wheel you may as well check all the others, there should be a pair  of tweaser type things on the let to help get them out.It does sound like a bad connection has finally failed. If not fuse maybe earth, but god knows where that is. If neither of those then a bad connection behind centre console of dash maybe?
Oh, disconnect the battery if you play around with it. Reset windows, sun roof and radio code may be needed after. There are guides in maintenance re dash and centre console removal. You may need security keys to plug in to holes behind 4 grub screws
on radio facia if you need to get in behind radio. Hth somehow...

Hummmmmmmm....
The fuse box cover has been flapping down and I have had to bang it shut repeatedly with my leg as I am driving, I did get totally pissed off with it this weekend and start really slamming it shut.

Original problem of it not blowing that cold...may be the aircon filter needs cleaning/replacing...had the aircon on my 206 blowing warm...regassed, no difference and wasnt that low anyway...washed the pollen filter and it was fine after that! :)

Right I have just had a look at the fuses ( couldn't find the tweezers ), I found which fuse was the air conditioning system ( it was 30 ) so bunged in the spare 40 fuse I have, started the car, nothing still.

Big hairy 'dangle berries'

Right what next ? to be honest I am scare shitless of electonics so might have to had this over to a mechanic, unless tere is someone here near Hillingdon/Surrey that wants some money for having a go ?

I will happily bring the car to you. If not, what do I do next.

Cheers
Ben

The things I would do are

1) Check ALL fuses and make sure they are fuly inserted
2) Pop the radio out and check for trapped wires.

Then go on a standard diag from there!

Thankyou, any online guides to popping the radio out on a 2000 reg omega ? Probably have a go at that myself.

tech 2 anygood for diagnosing this? Kevin Wood in Alton might the the nearest though?
 Just a thought...

Presume the radio has 4 three mill(iirc?)grub screws in each corner of the facia? If so remove them then fit the security keys in the wholes and pull via the keys and the radio just comes out. I think i read on here halfords sell the security keys, they "pop" into sockets and hold out a tab that allows the radio to come out.

Just a small word of warning, if tempted to use a small bobbel ended allan key or similar, instead of security keys, you may find it difficult to pull out without grabbing via the cd cassette slot or around edge of the facia, dont, i nearly pulled the facia off mind altogether and its not quite popped back on properly.  Hth.
