Any thoughts on what to look for...mates 2.5 v6 Omega is loosing coolant, had a look for leaks...doesnt appear to be overheating (not above 97) some sign of bubbles in the header tank with the cap off and engine running, coolant not overflowing...
Topped up to check level ran car, all ok when checked in the morning header tank all but empty...
I'm hoping for his sake its the HBV, but could this be more serious?

Surely you can get your hand in to see if the hbv is damp?
any puddle under the car?
how does the oil on the dispstick look?
sounds a bit like my weeping core plug symptoms.
how does the water loss appear during driving?

in reverse order of pita.
1 hbv most common/easiest(ish).
2 in the v. Oil cooler cover plate, stat housing, coolant bridge.
3 coolant transfer pipe at back of block.
4core plugs in cylinder head. A right pain to find and fix. Or use a stop leak additive.

at one point.....mine was actually suffering from all 4 of the above ;D
down to just 1 now, with your suggested fix working fine for well over a year ;)

Yes, there comes a point when you have to do whats easiest, i had done 1, and 2 to death. It improved but still leaked. Probably had to top up once every 3 weeks. I thought, f**ck it, bollux! Bottle of bars in there, sorted no more top ups.
I would say only use it as a last resort, i have seen posts about blocked or clogged systems and temp.sensor problems. Def only ever use one bottle per system.
