hi all, i've just purchased an 96 omega for a run around over the winter as my other car's as open top sports and it's a little cold and wet to be out in that.
Drove the car about 75 miles so far and can't believe how smooth and quiet it is. However i've noticed the temperature guage seems to go from 85ish to 98ish then drop down again to 85 when just sitting in traffic - it went to 100 today. It also moves around a little when driving but nothing too bad... Just wondering if that sounds normal?
Second problem is that looking at the front of the engine (straight down towards the floor) i see there's excess oil lying around, and i noticed today that there was a smell inside the car (at a stand still) of warm oil. - The chap said the rocker cover gaskets were slightly seeping - could this be what that is?
Last but not least.. All the seats in the car warm up nicely except the drivers.. which doesn't seem to work at all? This a problem with the seat? The button's working ok - as i swapped this over with the passenger side.

Temp gauge V6 - mine sits around 92 - 93ēC this weather - hot weather 95ēC (98 in traffic then fans cut in and bring it down)
Oil smell - probably cam cover gaskets leaking - replace with genuine Vx gaskets + black sealant & clean breathers (dirty breathers will cause gaskets to leak)
Heat pad gone - usual fault - can change if seats fabric - sewn into leather.

My Omega used to go up-and-down between 85-98 when in traffic. This does not seem to be an issue....

cool - temp sounds fine, and the seat i won't worry about..
I'll do the rocker covers next week.

went out in the car tonight and when i stopped, i noticed quite a bit of smoke coming out from the bonnet.. shortly followed by a burning oil smell in the car..
Had a look and found that where the oil filler cap is - just below that it was leaking and dropping on to the exhaust.. When i change the cam cover's will that resolve the issue - or shall i just stick 6 inches of sealent round and it and be done?

Could be either the cam cover gasket just below the filler, or the seal in the filler itself .. it comes off the cover quite easily, wait until you do the cam cover gaskets and check it then ... IMHO :)

cool - thanks. I'm doing it this weekend so shouldn't be a problem until then..
Any other job's worht doing when replacing the cam cover gaskets?

Full breather system clean is a MUST .. no point in doing the cam covers if you don't clean the breathers.... :)
If you use a lot of carb cleaner on the breather box a full oil change is recommended as well ... :)
Some folks think that while you have it in bits its worth changing the plugs as they are a bitch to get to, its also worth thinking about plug leads if they are the older type and the plugwells are full of oil .... leave them contaminated and the DIS pack may well fail sooner that you would like .. :(
