Has anyone ever done a long term test to see how much more fuel you use running the air con.The hand book says to run it all the time for comfort reasons so why have econ button.Ive been told by a work mate it doesnt make much difference. Is that true?

if I'm on a long motorway run I can make a marginal saving on ECO... but generally, it's not worth worrying about.
We didn't buy Omega's to worry about an MPG or 2 - we would have bought a Prius :D :y

Yer right there. :y

By the way,im getting on average 26 mpg with a/c on.

I believe the A/C compressor uses about 5 BHP. The engine is rated at 217 BHP, so I use 2.3 % of the power available at the engine - not at the wheels - to run the A/C
Average driving MPG over 9000 miles which includes 2/3rds towing is 23 mpg, 2.3 % of that is .529 mpg .. so I lose 1/2 a mile /gallon .... I can destroy more than that in 10 minutes of spirited driving !!!
Yes .. it takes power (fuel) to run th A/c ... but the amount is, IMHO, not worth worrying about .. If it does worry you, then as said, don't drive an omega ..

You wont get me in one of those jokes. How do all those batterys decrease your "carbon footprint"? Surely they are more poisonous than a normal cars lifetime of emissions?
You may notice 1 or 2 mpg between fill ups, but id much rather have a clear screen and a dry non clamey interior.

I managed 16.37 m.p.g on my last tank load. So I'm getting there. 3.2 V6. :D

Hmmmm, not a lot of difference between Entwoods 3.2 and Mannys 2.6 :-/ So whats going on. I used to get around 30mpg driving on major roads (dual + m'way) and being a bit quick. Now, I go to work the more 'scenic' route and the speed is 50 limit, I've also had the a/c serviced & gassed and let the climate control do the work. My mpg is now down to 26-27, so a/c + manic driving (only kidding) affects mpg.
Just thought I'd share that with you... :)

The price you pay for your fuel, who cares about mpg? ;) ;) :y
(do we not have a 'green with envy' smilie? ;) )

No need for that is there! No need at all. How much is fuel out there again? Go on rub it in properly. ;-)

it almost 3 years i have never once turned it off Auto when driving! ;D

The a/c takes about as much as having the window open, also I think the air con will load the ebgine depending on how much cooling it has to do. i.e if its not working hard it will not load the engine much.
I understand that the Prius is one of the most polluting cars - this is in the manufacture of the batteries as opposed to the running. The nickel processign has destroyed swathes of Canada.
