Took the steering wheel off this morning as I wanted to investigate the grumbling noise on full knock - suspect broken squib or some such. Steering wheel wouldn't come off of course - not without me getting medieval on it - which didn't appeal to me at the time.
Anyway, left the battery disconnected for about an hour first to ensure that the airbag was disengaged. Unscrewed it and removed the orange wire. Refit was reverse of removal - made sure that the orange connector clicked home fully. Started the car and the airbag warning light is now on and not going out once driven. Will it go out in time - is it still on because it's running a diagnostic? Does it matter which way round the orange connector goes on? Starting to rain now so don't think that I'll be able to do any more jobs - would like to solve this before I finish though....

Did you connect batery and switch anythimg opn with air bag disconected?
-
Yes, I reconnected the battery as I wanted the power steering on. Then disconnected the battery, refitted the airbag and then reconnected the battery.

Unfotunately your airbag light will not self reset & will be on forever untill it's reset with a (Cheapo)Tech II even if you identify and fix the fault, which we can assume is somewhere around the steering wheel squib. ;)

Theres your prob, need to get light switched off now.
You should not connect power with air bag disconected ;)

OK, I can live with that!
Removed all the cwoling and couldn't see anything broken or out of place. Definitely feels like something is grinding just behind the steering wheel on very full lock. Oh well, I guess that it just adds character to the car ;)

Update your whereabouts and there's likely to be someone near-ish who has either a real Tech II or a 'Cheapo Tech II' who'll be able to reset the light.

have you got any up & down movement if you jiggle the steering wheel?, i believe there is a bearing in the top of the column & if knackered will give you play up & down as well as the rumble, perhaps somebody will know for sure ;)
