Title: V6 HEAD GASKET OR OIL COOLER FAULT?
Post by: PAULH on 01 November 2008, 14:36:08
Hi Guys,

I need your help please! I have a 98 R v6 CDX. Just noticed some white mayo like gunge in the oil filler cap. The car isn't overheating or smoking but is using alot of coolant and oil ( a litre or so every 2 weeks ). I cannot see any obvious leaks or oil in the water expansion tank. Am I looking at a suspect head gasket or oil cooler fault?

Cheers in advance. Paul

the mayo in the oil filler is normal on v6,s which tend to do short journeys.
the other symptons imo are more likely to be oil cooler then HG.
oil cooler failure is quite common,HG failure is quite rare. :y :y

Thanks, any idea how much I'm looking at to repair either OC or HG. I'm no mechanic so I have no idea. In the meantime, if i it OC is it still safe to drive?. Paul

Bet you heater control valve is leaking (back right side of the engine)
as for the oil consumption you might be burning a bit due to short journeys
