Title: Squeeking Aircon Pump!!!
Post by: Tafty on 01 November 2008, 09:50:44
Hi chaps

Sounds like I have a squeeking noise coming from around about the area of the aircon pump. Is it anything to be worried about if the bearings are on their way out??

How big a job is it to repair/replace? And if it did seize up - is it likely to snap the Aux belt?

Mine seized up in Manchester when visiting my Brother with my parents.  It went without any warning, snapped nothing but did stop the engine from being turned over, much to the amazement of an AA engineer!!  :o :o

It cost over £1,000 for a garage to replace after the AA brought me, my parents and the car back to Southam, Warwickshire, where I was staying with my parents, at 0130 in the morning!!! :'( :'(  I was not ammused, not were my parents!! :D ;)

You could fit a non aircon belt to bypass the compressor. That would help identify the source and hopefully prevent catastrophe if it is the compressor.

I'll whip the belt off tomorrow and see if it's definately the cause. Will it spin free hand btw?
