First thing is paperclip test (you'll find instructions in the maintenance guides).  Check for oil in the plugwells.  Most likely plugs, leads or dispack but could be a dodgy injector wire as well.  Post up the results from the paperclip test first.

just a note......
i was thinking about my problem and i sussed that the fault started after id put some fuel in at my local fuel station.id filled my bike up too a couple of hours earlier.i thought the bike was running a bit iffy going to work but put it down to a bit of carb icing.(kwaks are prone to it) anyway...i decided to run the tank down as low as pos and put some more fuel in from a different garage + some stp system cleaner. low and behold the miss fire has all but gone and no em light.
the message is beware shit fuel !!!
question....am i right in thinking that if the engine miss fires due to an ignition fault the catalist sensor would send the em into safe mode?

thanks

I dont beleive your car will sense a missfire. 2.2 3.2 and 2.6 do as they are obd2 and that list of codes,  includes missfire codes that are cylinder specific. If your car is obd2 4 digit codes then it will. If its not, flashes 1.2 three times for diagnostic start, then afaik it wont.

Will sense missfires via the knock sensors.
