What Chrismec meant was ..... TWO bigger hammers! ::) ;D ;D ;D
Try to hit either side of the ball joint at the same time, it'll let go eventually.  ;)

yes exactly, but if your using a fork type splitter you may need to hit it a bit harder(they can be a bit childish some times)

But they mean you'll need a new ball joint too.

That's right, I did the same thing. I'd expected a nice slide on fit, but when you tighten it up it'll be OK. :y :y :y

the play should go as you tighten the nut iirc its a taper fit

Use two lump hammers, and simultaneously clout either side of the eye of the idler arm.
A couple of good resounding blows should see the joint separate from the tie-rod. I've not failed yet using this method ... !

I hear see what your saying but when i put it on and tightened it up you could feel play in it.Just by putting my finger in it you can feel the hole is bigger on the new one?

We're at the larger end of the steering arm, you're talking about the small ball joint end. ;)  :y

Bugger ....
Mine fitted snugly, and is a genuine Vx job, as I couldn't source one from anywhere else locally. 'Stealers' robbed me of just over 60 quid, but it reassembled perfectly. Still perfect, one MoT later!

manny.  You are obviously not happy with the fit.  if there is play in it, it will be a MOT fail and could simply be unsafe.  may be worth posting the make to see if anyone else has experienced similar issues.

If as you say that the new one is half a mil out at the same place compared to the old one then it cannot be right.  Despite the urge to get the job done, I'd down tools until the correct part can be found
