Title: 99 T reg elite
Post by: sneakypenguin on 02 November 2008, 03:09:35
good morning everyone, new to these forums and omega's so a few quick questions if you don't mind.

First of all, just underneath the indicator stalk there's another stalk that I've only just noticed and haven't got the first idea what it's for!

Secondly, the previous owner changed the battery and didn't have the code for the radio, so anyideas how to get  it working again? will it be a dealer jobby?sadly there isn't a handbook and I've checked all the paperwork but alas no code  :(

thirdly, it's done around 78400 miles and i'm not sure if the cam belt has been changed so would it be worth changing and roughly how much should I expect to pay?

fourthly, the sat nav cd that came with is is well out of date, 1998 it says on the case iirc so how much will a new one set me back and will it work with the current system? it's all factory standard and no upgrades.

fith, what type of engine oil does it need?

I think that's all for now and thanks for reading!

Hi there and welcome..relative 'newbie' myself.

If the extra stalk you mentioned is on the right,I believe it may the steering height adjuster, pull towards you and the steering wheel will leap upwards, a little downwards pressure on the wheel will bring down whilst holding the stalk towards you.

As regards the Radio etc,Vx main dealers can get the code for you,at a cost=there may be other means that others may know of.

Cam Belt--if in doubt change it. At 78,000 miles it should have been done by now (around 60K).

Time for bed.

Stalk is short stubby and no writing on will as said be steering wheel height adjuster...

Cambelt and tensioners...if in doubt get it done, tensioners tend to fail first...should be done every 40k so at 78k its due even if it was done at 40k, which it may well not have been...expect to pay about £300-350 (find somewhere that knows what their doing...Vaux main dealer will probably quote way more!)...shop around if necessary and get the waterpump changed at the same time

Codes...main dealer will charge between about £15-35 to get your car pass...this will have all your stereo and CD player codes as well as key codes etc etc...well worth having :)

If it's long with buttons, LEDs and 'Gold Cruise' written on it, it's an aftermarket cruise control.

Mine has it.

Why would an aftermarket kit be fitted to a car that could so easily have an OE cruise fitted?  :-/

Cruise was an expensive option, and a few years ago, not many Omegas being broken ;)

Due every 40k or 4 years. Do it if unsure now. If you fancy having a go, a DVD is available from our shop (http://shop.omegaowners.com) for £3

Navteq - http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/Navteq-NavteqEurope-Site/en_GB/-/GBP/ViewStandardCatalog-Browse?CatalogCategoryID=zGEKCggRxbMAAAEOk89tNDzd&ShowAllProducts=YES - newer discs are quite slow, the Carin is a very old system.

S'pose so :). Vx cahrge enough for it still, it's a £200 option on an Astra H even though it's just a £30odd stalk & a Tech II session. :-?

£37 trade for the stalk, plus a £8 clutch switch if required, and programming 3 ECUs on Astra-H

Mind you, much easier to swap the stalk on Astra-H than it is on an Omega....

Is on the carpass. Dealers charge between £15 and £50 for this, so ring a few dealers ;)

You'll need to get the CD changer code too.
