Title: LACK OF MPG!!!
Post by: MORTY on 03 November 2008, 14:32:35
Hi all, the latest 2000 2.5 omega I have purchase seems to be doing 26MPG but prior had been doing 30MPG. Its covered 67k. My last 98 2.5 use to do around 29MPG average. I was wondering if it was because I put some a Supermarket Fuel in last time. I have just changed oil and filters. Is there anything else i need to clean or change to increase it back up a tad????? :-/

well I'd stay off the sumpermarket stuff.  Mine rund like a proverbial dog on it.  Other than that I'd reckon 29 is ok particulary for an auto.  You could squeeze a bit more out of a manual as long as you drive like grandad.  A few blasts into the red zone on the rev counter and you'll kill your economy

Have you changed the fuel filter?

Also, 29 is actuallyquite good IMHO!, mine gives me around 23 to 25 average around town.  I don't think i've ever seen 30 on the average consumption rather than the ever changing instant consumption.

I know that these are quite sensitive to filter clogging, and as Morty has said, for what it's worth stay off supermarket stuff, as in the longterm fuel like shell optimax pays for itself in the cleanliness of the system with its detergent rich mixture.

Also be mindfull that now that the weather is colder, your engine takes more time to reach peak operating temperature, and this will also accelerate fuel consumption.

If it's any consolation when my wife used my 3.0 a few winters back, she reduced my mpg down to 16.something & when I towed my caravan to darkest Cornwall my mpg was 16.6.  :o  :y  :y
