Title: 1999 2.0 16v CDX Auto  Warning issues please help
Post by: shorty on 04 November 2008, 17:46:57
Hi I have a 1999 2.0 16v CDX auto which has started to display BRAKE LIGHT CHECK warnings. I drove the vehicle faultlessly for around 30 miles and then 2 days later I started the vehicle the dreaded BRAKE LIGHT WARNING appeared and then the AUTOMATIC GEARBOX warning(never seen before). Now whenever the car is engaged in any gear it cuts out. ANY help would be much appreciated. Regards Gary. :y :y :y :y

think you want some fluid in the autobox or maybe a fluid and filter change.

Brake light checkcomes up every time you start the car...goes away when you press the pedal...sounds like you need fluid top up in auto box urgently...

Hi sorry I didnt make it clear but the brake warning usually goes out after depressing pedal but recently its started to come on then go randomly although lights work. Kind of functioning correctly then incorrectly. But most of the time correctly... if that makes any sense. Gearbox has been running smoothly enough but I always felt it was not the most responsive auto box ive ever used. So fluid could be the awnser. :)

if it has the brake pad wear sensors then it's the pads getting too low so will need new sensors and pads.
as said, the omega always starts with the brake check light on then goes away.

They are two separate messages. I can't think what the message is for low pads but it obvious when you see it. The brake light check is for the brake lights & quite separate from low pads.
Try two new decent quality stop/tail lamps, and see how you get on.

i had the light check. For some reason, the lead pip on the end of the bulb had worn a flat and was giving an intermitent contact. The bulb had not blown, just not completeing the circuit. The car cant tell the difference.
