Hi all ,
The other day the gear selector wouldn't release when i put my foot on the brake .... but it did release after a few pushes of the pedal ....
It done the same tonight in my drive whilst going to work and i noticed the brake lights wern't coming on :-/ ..... untill it did release .
Is this a faulty brake switch or lock switch on the selector ....... i dont fancy getting stranded somewhere with a gear stick that wont move :-/
Thanks

i would say the brake light switch isnt adjusted properly so you have to push the pedal further down for the switch to work therfore letting the gearstick release, either that or the switch is on its way out.

Ive sat in the car and tried to get it to do the same thing .
When it releases it works fine ie just the gentlist push on the pedal and you can hear the click as the lock releases.... it was only tonight that i noticed the brake lights wernt shining on the wall on one or two pumps on the pedal hence i think it may be the brake switch ..... my other concern is that i dont have brakelights when im driving or would that cause the display to warn me of brakelight failure :(
-
I would have thought you would get the "brakelight" check message on the display. Have you checked the fuse :-/
-
Just a thought. Is the brakelight switch wired in series with the lock switch under the gear selector lever :-/

Change the brake light switch mate, they don't cost too much. I had the same problems, sat at traffic lights in Park & not being able to shift out of it, it's amazing how popular you become with those in the queue behind you. ;D ;D ;D Just make sure you adjust it correctly when you fit it though, or you don't get cruise ...... apparently ::) ::) ::) :y :y

If that happens pop the cover and shroud round the gearlever and release the lock switch manually. Easy enough done :y

I did have a go at pulling up the shroud and cover but wasnt sure where or how hard to pull :-[

I think the fitting of a new brake light switch is covered in a 'how-to' some where in the forum. They more or less self adjust if you do it right ....... :y

A yellow lever to the left(?) of the shift lever.
