Title: Oil catch tank query
Post by: Dingleberry on 05 November 2008, 15:32:14
After having a long hard think earlier today, would it be possible to add a catch tank to say the oil cap just to relieve some of the pressure in the cam/crankcase ? i was thinking this could possibly help the engine breath and prevent the cam cover gaskets from blowing ?

There should be no pressure buildup if the existing breathers are clear (there should in fact be a slight vacuum in the crankcase). It's just a matter of checking them every so often and cleaning as required.

If oil is changed frequently and the car doesn't do too many short trips, the breathers stay clear IME.

the only reason cam cover gaskets fail is because the current breathers are blocked!
