Title: Orrible smell.
Post by: gwa on 10 November 2008, 17:59:10
When I first start-up if I forget to hit the Recycle button on the CC I get this 'God Awful' smell. Now my nose or should I say sense of smell is not what it used to be, so I dunno if its burnt oil or CO2. If I'm on Recycle then the smell is not there, so its coming through the heating air ducts somewhere.

Last week I read about a women who nearly died because of Emmisions in her car and at the w/e my daughter had an asthma attack which could be down to a 50 mile round trip a few hours previous.

Any help appreciated  :)

Yep, they are all clear. I've also fitted (prior to this) a new pollen filter. To me it smells like exhaust, but I'm not sure. :-/

If it's exhaust you smell it's Carbon Monoxide CO not Carbon Dioxide CO2
Both will kill you but in a different way ;)

Great, at least I know what's gonna kill me  ;D So, how do I tell if it is. I thought about going to an MoT center and get them to stick the probe inside, then though they may cancel my existing MoT  >:( What d'ya reckon? :-[

I had the horrible smell and kept getting headaches. After changing the exhaust  (cat back )and cam cover gaskets all was well.
The old exhaust had pin holes in the pipes

Could the CATS be knackered?

Cam covers have been changed, not sure if theres a leak from anywhere else. I'll get the exhaust checked. Thanks :y

So as the smell comes in via heating system, where are the cats in relation to any air intake area that would cause the problem. Whilst not mechanical I was thinking more like a loose manifold or joint/thingy where the exhaust meets the engine. If you get my drift  :-[
