Went to have a look at a 2000 3.0 MV6 this morning local (ish) to me! The guy's asking £1950 for it with MOT to Sept but no tax. It is in very good condition and everything seems to work. Engine starts well, no smoke or rattles, no mayo on the oil cap or expansion tank. Traces of oil around though (more later). Took it out for a drive, all ok, does what it says on the tin. No noise, steerings good (front tyres excellent-no uneven wear, back tyres good as well!) doesn't pull, handbrake ok. Windows, mirrors air con all works ok. No radio although he's got a Vauxhall radio casette to put in. Does it have a CD Radio? And should it be double DIN?
When we got back I checked the engine and it was leaking oil I suspect from the rocker covers. Needs a cambelt and tensioner as well and probably benefit from a full service as it's done 170k miles. Tried to get it for £1700 but he won't budge below £1800. What do we think? It does need some work but it is in very good condition body wise and interior wise. Not frightened of doing the work but wonder what it's worth as I'd hate to pay over the odds!

PS I should say this is for a mate and not me! I'm happy as Larry with mine :y

I could be wrong but it sounds a little steep for a car which has done that many miles and is in need of major service/cam belt and tax. :-/ :-/
-
i bet its the silver one i saw on Autotrader.
WAY over priced, pay no more than 1.2k

Yup.
Pay no more than 1.2/1.4k
No tax is a good start to get them down.
If they won't go below 1.5k walk away.

Agreed :y

Definatly over priced.
You would need to budget £200 for genuine Vx belt kit and rocker gaskets, oil and carb cleaner for the breathers etc.
I would say £1200 tops

Interesting, I looked today on the Autotrader website and lo and behold, it's now up for £1725!

Perhaps somebody else was coming to look at it after all and it wasn't BS, and they told him the same as us!!!

If its as good as it looks and is backed up with the FSH that it states then go for it matey, that is alot of car for the money :y
IMHO
And its manual too ;)
-
Early advice was 1.2K maximum .. and prices of Miggys has dropped due to petrol price rises ... and it still needs cambelt/tensioners doing
I still think its overpriced ... £1000-1200 maximum IMHO

I doubt you will get it for that from a dealer :(
If the car is as straight and clean as it looks its got to be worth the money from a dealer. IMHO
-
If its a dealer then get the oil leak sorted and the cambelt /tensioners done before purchase ....
That could be £600 worth of work at a stealers .. so needs factoring into the price IMHO
-
I would say that interior and exterior it is in excellent condition but there is still the rocker cover gaskets to sort and timing belt and tensioner to be sure to be sure! Shame really as it is very very clean :(
I bet the guy's kicking himself now as we offered him off the top of our heads £1700 initially (good for us he refused I suppose!) ;D I'm going to keep an eye on it though and as I know it's been kicking around for a while I reckon I could steam in with readies and almost name my price. It's almost worth it to see the look on the guys face :y

i reckon you should offer him £1250, explaining you'd like to get the cambelt and rocker cover gaskets done yourself (cambelt kits are going on ebay for around £70 anyway!), show him the money on the spot, this actually works well in many cases
-
£1250 tops mate.
just bought mine.mv6 2000 for 1270.
needed new cam cover gaskets..£120 genuine vx.did the job myself and new plug leads £50. so add the price of a cam belt job and you can see even £1500 seems over the top.
brian ::)

I think you're right, especially when he realises it's me who came and saw the car before, we'll both know the car's been hanging around for some time, something these small dealers don't like! I'm watching the ad closely :y

Whats up with your Man Elite Estste then, or are you getting another one as well as your one??
-
£1000- £1200 at the most.

Absolutely nothing :) I've got a mate who's so impressed with mine he wants one :y He wants a manual though as he's an ex traffic cop ;D
Mind you, as mine's an early Elite (no climate, no steering wheel controls for the wireless!, Infra Red keyfob (yuk) for example) I would like a later example. I do like this one though,
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1213794946
but for a small problem-lack of £4k :'(

i agree with everyone here.....1K tops.
Mileage is big, and Omegas will wear it well, history, is it dealers? if not then i would use that to knock him down.
Cam belt, rocker covers and the fact that the radio is not a gen vaux one, you have lost the screen display and the steering wheel controls, this may not be important but it helps from your part with negotiation.
If it was me i would shove a grand under his nose, hold my hand out and get him to shake on it, if he says no, the tell him the money is there for 7 days after that you will be off buying another that you know is coming on the market ;)
Play then at their own game, they will hate you but you get the car you want at the price you want
-
Its funny too you think its just what you want & don't really want to let it slip bye thinking there wont be another like it but be sure there will be there's always another coming up for sale if you can wait & if the price on this one ain't right ! Just hang on... ;)

And lo and behold it re-appears, this time in Blackpool! Anybody on here?
