Title: Unlocking the car with the key - alarm going off !
Post by: belldarr on 14 November 2008, 18:14:54
Hi - seems to be my day for bad luck today.

Had some van driver bump the rear of the car this morning and then my remote fob stopped working - split it open and the solder between the battery holder and the PCB has broken - tried to resolder it but unsuccesfully - so now using the key to lock the car BUT the alarm goes off when I unlock the door - only stops when I turn on the ignition.

Can I de-activate the alarm or stop it going off somehow - is there a method to unlock and un-alarm?

Have disconnected the power sounder already.

Hopefully will get a fob next week thanks to Markey Mark :y

if you've disconnected the power sounder then it shouldnt be a problem waiting till you get your new fob off MM

Well the standard horn still sounds when the alarm is triggered - if it was just the flashing hazards then I could live with that for a few days - looks like I am stealing the car each time I go out in it!! :)

Don't deadlock it! Just turn the key halfway till it just locks, shouldn't set the alarm then :y

leave driver side rear door open close driver door look all doors from inside. then close rear door.  alarm not activated, but doors not deadlocked. hth

Mine doesn't dead lock like the pre-facelift models - its just turn anti-clock to lock (this seems to alarm it too) and then the key returns to the original upright/center position and then clockwise to un-lock the door - but as soon as the door opens the horn starts to beep and then hazards flash, I checked the manual too and this seems to be normal operation as far as using the key to lock and unlock.

I see your a bit of a dab hand at repairing them Martin - Once I get the new one up and running maybe you would take a look at the broken one and give me an estimate :)  I am going to get another key cut for the car so that I have 2 fully working keys for future  :y

If the switches are getting difficult (common problem - they wear) I'll repair holder and new switches for £10 including first class recorded postage back

Holder alone is £8, it actually takes longer to repair properly than replace 3 switches, but no parts beyond brass wire used

Well I shall be in touch Martin - will PM you when I get the new one set up .

And can confirm that the alarm does not self-arm when i lock it by leaning through the back door etc, it unlocked using the key this morning and alarm did not trigger.

Also - can you only get a key cut at the dealers??
