Post by: timB on 16 November 2008, 21:16:20
Hi guys. Just bought a 1997 Omega Tourer Autom. 2L and need help on 3 q's. the display on the dash shows 'check' intermitently. when in 'sport' mode under high revs it seems to struggle changing up. plus seems to be metallic noise when idling from i think cambelt. also is it a chain driven. last but not least, has anyone got a spare manual as there wasn't one, so im a little inb the dak as to codes, tech specs, etc. thanks a lot for any help or suggestions.

Sounds pretty normal apart from the cambelt noise, get that checked ASAP. What is the cambelt history with it?

Hi Tim

Welcome to the forum.

Your 2.0 is cambelt driven. These must be changed every 40k miles or 4 years.

The metallic noise could be an idler or waterpump bearing wearing out. Both will need attention as soon as possible.

The engine is supposed to get to the redline in Sport mode before it changes. When it does hit the redline, it should change crisply.

Have a read through previous posts. Especially the Maintenance Guides section. Better than a Haynes manual for pretty much everything.

You are now an OmegaOwner, so don't worry about asking if you are unsure. We are a friendly bunch. And there are some real experts on here too.

Enjoy your Omega  :y

The fact it comes up with check rather than telling you what its complaining about suggests you have an older Omega?? If you could update your profile with the details of what you drive then it would save people keep having to ask what you have  :y
